Pavel Osorio, 39, was arrested in Toronto TTC coffee toss
The investigation has been percolating since the assault occurred on a 105 bus in Vaughan in June, but the case heated up a week ago when York Regional Police released video of the brazen attack.
“Officers conducted a thorough investigation and were able to determine the identity of the accused,” Const. Laura Nicolle said Wednesday. “Investigators would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.”
It was just after 8 a.m. June 8 that a man boarded the TTC bus at Dufferin St. and Dufferin Hill Rd.
Nicolle said the TTC driver recognized the man as a passenger who allegedly verbally abused him a month earlier before stealing a transfer slip and exiting the bus.
“When the driver recognized the man boarding the bus on June 8, he asked him to leave,” she said. “The man refused and walked to the back of the bus.”
The bus driver refused to proceed until the man exited.
“The man became angry, walked to the front of the bus, and assaulted the driver by throwing a cup of coffee on him from a silver thermal travel mug,” she said.
The driver was not injured because the coffee was not hot.
Pavel Osorio, 39, was arrested in Richmond Hill on Tuesday.
He faces one count of assault with a weapon and is scheduled to appear in Newmarket court Thursday.
