Toronto City Hall abuzz at OPP role in Project Brazen

TORONTO - Friends and foes of Mayor Rob Ford were buzzing Wednesday with news the OPP was now overseeing Project Brazen 2.

Councillor Adam Vaughan — a former member of the Toronto Police Services Board — said the change announced by Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair on Wednesday was a sign that the investigation is advancing.

“I guess the work is getting closer and closer to the mayor’s office,” Vaughan said. “It just underscores how serious these allegations are and having the OPP come in, I guess, just helps us make sure we have confidence that the police work is police work.

“Hopefully we’ll get some answers.”

Vaughan said it is clear “the situation is getting more and more serious.”

“The investigation is going deeper and deeper into the relationship between the Fords and people who may or may not have committed illegal acts,” Vaughan said.

Councillor Doug Ford — who has been repeatedly critical of Blair — said he was “happy” with the news that the OPP will be overseeing Brazen 2.

“It won’t be so political, maybe,” Ford said.

Councillor Karen Stintz — who is running for mayor — said she trusts Blair’s “judgment on the matter.”

“I don’t know anything more than what I read in the newspaper,” Stintz said on the investigation.

“I trust the process will unfold as it should.”
